*Donate to needy on Vaishakh Amavasya, says Mahant Rohit Shastri

Observing Shraddha-Puja on Vaishakh Amavasya for two days, on Tuesday, May 7, and Snan-Daan on Wednesday, May 8, will be auspicious

Jammu and Kashmir: Amavasya comes only once a month. The lord of Amavasya is Pitru Dev. Regarding Vaishakh Amavasya, Mahant Rohit Shastri Jyotishacharya, President of Shri Kailakh Jyotish avim Vedic sansthan Trust, stated that from a religious perspective, on this day, offerings to ancestors and other charity-related activities are performed.

 

People who bathe in holy rivers on this day will attain prosperity and freedom from all kinds of diseases and sorrows. Vaishakh Krishna Paksha Amavasya will start on Tuesday, May 7, at 11:41 AM and will last until Wednesday, May 8, at 08:52 AM. Performing Shraddha, Tarpan, etc., for ancestors will be auspicious after 11:41 AM on Tuesday, May 7, and bathing in holy rivers, charity, etc., will be auspicious until 08:52 AM on Wednesday, May 8. If for any reason one cannot bathe in rivers, they should bathe in water at home with Ganga water added to it and donate to the needy as much as possible. It is also highly beneficial to feed flour balls to fish in rivers or ponds on Amavasya.

 

*Remedies for Amavasya:*

  • Observing fasting on Amavasya not only pleases the ancestors but also pleases Brahma, Indra, Surya, Agni, Vayu, Rishis, animals, and birds.
  • Amavasya is considered an auspicious day in scriptures. By performing certain remedies on this day, one’s fortune increases, and auspicious results are obtained.
  • Bathing in holy rivers or ponds during sunrise and making donations according to one’s capability on the day of Amavasya eradicates all sins and brings merit.
  • Donating sesame, milk, and sweets made from sesame helps alleviate poverty.
  • Every Amavasya, focus on your ancestors. Offer raw milk, a little Ganga water, black sesame seeds, sugar, rice, water, and flowers to the peepal tree while chanting the mantra ‘Om Pitribhyo Namah.’ Reciting the Pitru Sukta after this brings auspicious results.
  • Offering Arghya to Lord Surya in a copper vessel mixed with red sandalwood, Ganga water, and pure water three times on the day of Amavasya while chanting the seed mantra ‘Om Pitribhyo Namah’ is auspicious.
  • After reciting the Neelkanth Stotra, Sarpa Sukta, and Shri Narayan Kavach on Amavasya, it is advisable to feed Brahmins their favorite sweets and offer them a meal according to one’s capability.
  • Yoga for offspring is formed in the horoscopes of childless couples. If Rahu is in a debilitated position in someone’s fortunate position, observing this fast on Amavasya nullifies its negative effects.
  • During the evening, light a lamp of cow ghee in the northeast corner of the house. Use a red thread in the lamp.
  • To alleviate poverty, obtain offspring, and prosper in business, donate a small silver peepal tree.
  • People afflicted with Kalasarpa Dosha should bathe in the morning and worship a silver snake and serpent goddess with bright flowers. Then, release it into flowing water.
  • Place a flag in Lord Vishnu’s temple and offer kheer and sweets to Mother Lakshmi. Her blessings will be attained.
  • According to astrology, the moon is considered the deity of the mind. On Amavasya, when the moon is not visible, it affects those who are highly emotional, especially girls.
  • On this day, when the moon is not visible, there is a sense of restlessness in our bodies, especially for those who are very emotional. Negative-minded individuals are affected by negative energies during this time, reflecting in their bodies and future consequences.
  • *Special Considerations on Amavasya:*
  • On Amavasya, avoid consuming any kind of tamasic substances, observe celibacy, refrain from alcohol and other intoxicants, and avoid cutting nails and hair for those fasting. Those observing fasts should not wear belts, footwear, or leather items during worship. Avoid wearing black-colored clothes, and refrain from causing harm to anyone as it is considered a great sin. Wrongdoings not only affect your body but also have negative consequences on your future.
