Blistering heat wave swept across Jammu region on Tuesday as the temperature soared to the season’s record 43.6 degree Celsius, recording 4.5 degree Celsius above normal temperature.
According to the meteorological department, Jammu record the hottest day of this summer so far with the mercury rising to 43.6 degree Celsius. On Monday, Jammu day’s temperature was 42.8 degrees Celsius and it was 3.7 notches above normal temperature.
In Katra, the base camp of holy cave shrine of Goddess Vaishno Devi shrine, the day temperature settled at 39.4 degree Celsius which was 3.8 degree Celsius above normal.
Bhaderwah, the mini-Kashmir, too experienced heat where the temperature was 34.2 degree Celsius.
“There is no immediate relief from heat wave in Jammu region till June 3. The maximum temperature is expected to go up further,” a Met department official said.
Several parts of Jammu witnessed power cuts in metered areas and low water supply which compounded the problems of the people. Heat wave forced the citizens to stay indoors while thin movement of vehicles was witnessed on city roads.
On Monday, Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited had announced new power curtailment schedule of eight hours for rural and four hours for urban areas of the region.
Meanwhile, the School Education Department has announced summer vacation in all government as well as private schools falling in summer zone of Jammu division from June 1 to July 16. All teachers have been asked to remain available for any on-line guidance of students during vacation period.
