An important meeting of National Conference’s core group is scheduled to be held in Srinagar at 5 pm today to decide the names of party’s candidates for two Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir Valley—Srinagar and Baramulla.

According to the sources, the party is expected to field former chief minister and its vice president Omar Abdullah from Srinagar seat where the PDP has fielded its youth president Waheed Parra who was arrested in a militancy related case by the National Investigation Agency in November 2020 and released on bail in June 2023.

From Baramulla seat, the party is likely to nominate former minister Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan against the two ex-separatists plunging in electoral battle—J&K People’s Conference chairman Sajjad Lone and former legislator Engineer Rashid. The name of former minister Aga Syed Ruhullah for North Kashmir’s seat (Baramulla) is also under active consideration of the National Conference.

The NC has already announced the name of veteran leader Mian Altaf for the prestigious Anantnag-Rajouri seat.
