Jammu, April 7

Jammu and Kashmir Police awoke from deep slumber for the martyrdom of Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma in Kathua firing incident.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken significant steps following the Kathua shootout, where a Sub-Inspector was martyred and a gangster was killed. They’ve compiled a list of over 100 gangsters and history-sheeters who have been active over the past 15 years across various districts.

This proactive measure includes 116 names of active criminals, with a notable number identified in Jammu, Kathua, and Samba districts. The police are now more vigilant and are tightening their grip on these hardcore criminals, some of whom have already been taken into custody.

The authorities are also focusing on the illegal arms supply, which is reportedly being smuggled from Punjab via drones from across the border. The weapon used in the Kathua incident, a China-made pistol, is believed to have been smuggled in this manner.

The police are also keeping an eye on the associates of these criminals, as there has been a reported increase in gang-related activities in recent years, even involving those currently in jail.

This crackdown is reminiscent of the actions taken two decades ago when gang wars were prevalent in Jammu, which eventually subsided due to rigorous police operations and multiple arrests. The current efforts aim to curb the resurgence of such criminal activities and maintain law and order in the region.
