In an effort to combat the rising tide of cardiovascular diseases, Dr. Sushil Sharma, Head of the Department of Cardiology at Government Medical College, Jammu, has joined forces with SVS Charitable Trust to launch a comprehensive cardiac awareness and health checkup initiative. The campaign kicked off with a health camp at SVS Degree College, Rajouri, drawing attention to the critical importance of heart health.
The inaugural event was graced by the esteemed Shri Shri 1008 Swami Vishwatamanand Ji Maharaj and Dr. Sushil Sharma, who together set the tone for the camp with sacred Vedic chants calling for universal peace and well-being.
Swami Vishwatamanand Ji Maharaj shared his wisdom on wellness, emphasizing that it transcends the mere absence of illness. He highlighted that true wellness is an active pursuit of a balanced life, encompassing not just physical health but also mental and emotional harmony. He elaborated on well-being as a holistic assessment of life’s various facets – from physical health to life satisfaction and community connection.
Dr. Sushil Sharma took the opportunity to interact with attendees, stressing the symbiotic relationship between spirituality, medical knowledge, and quality of life, especially for those battling chronic illnesses like heart disease. He pointed out that negative psychological states such as depression or chronic stress can exacerbate heart conditions, while positive mental health – characterized by optimism, resilience, and happiness – can significantly aid in managing them.
An advocate for comprehensive care, Dr. Sharma underscored the importance of addressing both the physical symptoms and psychological needs of heart disease patients. He argued that managing heart ailments is not just about medical treatment but also about helping patients adapt to their new realities and maintain a positive outlook.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Sharma reminded medical professionals of their duty to see patients as whole beings. He reiterated that treating heart disease requires a holistic approach that considers not only the physical but also the psychological aspects of patient care.
