Jammu: National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah today formally announced to leave Ladakh Lok Sabha seat for the Congress party, saying “Congress and his party would contest all six seats of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, including Ladakh jointly”.

“On three seats, National Conference candidate will contest elections while the remaining seats will be contested by the Congress party,” Omar said while addressing a press conference after holding discussions with senior leadership of the Congress party in New Delhi.

Omar has already declared that his party (NC) will contest all the three seats of Kashmir Valley including newly-carved Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat.

The National Conference has named veteran leader Mian Altaf Ahmad as the party’s candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat. Omar Abdullah had made the announcement on behalf of party president Farooq Abdullah in the presence of Mian Altaf Ahmad on April 1.

Omar’s statement clearly indicates that the NC leadership finally decided to leave Ladakh seat for Congress party despite the fact that it has strong presence in Kargil district.

In October last year, the National Conference, which is the part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A), had emerged as the single largest party in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil by bagging 12 seats out of total 17 on which it fielded its candidates.
