First of its kind, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has constructed two smart bunkers on the International Border (IB) in the Jammu district to provide facilities to the border dwellers.
During the visit of the District Election Officer (DEO), Samba, Abhishek Sharma in the border areas, it was informed that two model air-conditioner-equipped bunkers, one each established in block Ramgarh and block Suchetgarh are fully functional.
These model bunkers can be used by the general public in the wake of Pakistan shelling and as a library, gym, and for entertainment purposes during normalcy.
Abhishek Sharma on Friday undertook a comprehensive visit to polling stations in border areas of Border Operational Post (BoP) Suresh Nanga, Ramgarh, and other adjoining areas to assess and review the status of assured minimum facilities in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
During the visit, the DEO had a detailed assessment of the essential facilities in Polling Booths for the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in the border areas.
He engaged with the stakeholders to ensure that all necessary arrangements were put in place to facilitate a smooth and efficient voting process.
He also took stock of the provision of basic amenities like electricity, water supply, sanitation facilities, and accessibility for differently-abled voters at the polling stations.
14,460 bunkers constructed in border areas in Jammu province
The government has built a total of 14,460 bunkers along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir to shield people living under a constant threat in border areas.

While 13,029 individual bunkers were constructed in the districts of Samba, Poonch, Jammu, Kathua, and Rajouri, the rest 1,431 large community bunkers will be constructed with the capacity to accommodate at least 40 people in each.
State-owned construction firm NBCC was given the sanction for the construction of 14,460 bunkers.
